Privacy Notice for Venues
Last Updated: August 15, 2026
This notice is for pubs, bars and the people who run them. If you are a customer using the PubCrawl app, our main privacy policy is the one that applies to you.
We list pubs and bars we have not spoken to, and we sometimes email them. This page explains what we hold, where we got it, why we think we are entitled to, and how to make us stop — because you did not come to us, and you are owed a straight answer on all four.
1. Who we are
PubCrawl LTD, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 14589825, is the data controller for the information described here. Our registered office is 124 City Road, London, England, EC1V 2NX.
You can reach us at removals@thepubcrawlapp.com for anything on this page.
2. What we hold about a venue
For a listed venue we may hold: its name, address and location, opening hours, phone number, website, a public contact email address, a description, photographs, price and menu information, categories and tags, and any reviews, ratings, photos or check-ins our users have contributed about it.
Most of that is information about a business, not about a person. But a contact email address at a small pub is often a named individual, or reaches one — so we treat venue contact details as personal data, and this notice applies to them.
3. Where we got it
We did not get it from you. It comes from:
- OpenStreetMap — the open geographic database that provides most of our venue listings.
- The venue’s own public website, including contact details, opening hours and menus. Some of this is read automatically.
- Google Places, for a smaller number of older listings.
- Our users, who add reviews, ratings, photos and check-ins.
4. Why we hold it, and our lawful basis
We rely on legitimate interests. Our interest is in running a directory of pubs and bars that is useful to people planning a night out, and in telling venues that they have a page they can claim and control.
We have weighed that against your interests. The information is already public, a listing brings a venue custom rather than costing it anything, and we make it easy to be removed — which is what the rest of this page is about. If you tell us to stop, we stop, and we do not require a reason.
Where we send marketing email, we also comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and every such email carries a one-click unsubscribe.
5. What we do with it
- Show the venue on our app and website, so people can find it.
- Include it in pub crawl routes we build for users.
- Email the venue about claiming its page, and occasionally about our service.
- Produce aggregate statistics — how many pubs are in a city, and so on.
We do not sell venue contact details.
6. Your choices — three different things
These are separate on purpose, so you can have one without the others.
- Stop the emails. Use the unsubscribe link in any email we have sent you, or write to us. Your listing stays up.
- Stay listed, but keep us from putting you in pub crawls. There is a link for this in our emails, or write to us. You keep your page, your reviews and your search listing. One thing we cannot do is stop a customer typing your name in and adding you to their own night out — that is them choosing you, and we would rather say so than imply a guarantee we cannot keep.
- Come off PubCrawl entirely. Email removals@thepubcrawlapp.com and we will remove the listing.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of what we hold, correct anything that is wrong, delete it, or restrict what we do with it. Because we rely on legitimate interests, you also have the right to object — and for direct marketing, objecting is absolute: we must stop, and we will.
Write to removals@thepubcrawlapp.com. We will respond within one month.
If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
8. How long we keep it
We keep a venue listing for as long as the venue exists and we have not been asked to remove it. If you unsubscribe or ask not to appear in crawls, we keep a minimal record of that request — your venue’s identifier and what you asked for — for as long as we hold the listing, because that record is the only thing stopping us contacting you again by mistake.
9. Where it is held
Our systems run on Google Cloud in the United Kingdom. Email is sent via Microsoft Azure Communication Services.
10. Changes
If we change this notice we will update the date at the top.
